I endeavor to cultivate a space for discovery, exploration, and, when the stars align, encounter. I am captivated by the mysteries and paradoxes of existence and what it means to be human. Recognizing that not only the order of reason and logic but also the mystery of the spiritual and metaphysical are vital when searching for a deeper understanding, both exist within my work.
Using formal design elements, specific materials, and geometrical structures as symbolic elements, I place these concepts in a dialog as an investigative process with little certainty of what the final paintings or drawings will become. False starts, cover-ups, reworking, new directions, stray marks, and blemishes are part of the process. The work that is developed is simply a record of the precarious and mysterious journey of searching for encounter. Ultimately, this leads to more questions than answers.
